After Z1′s Success, Samsung Z2 Might Be Happening Sooner Rather Than Later (Rumor)

Samsung has been working on Tizen for several years now, but it was only last month when the Korean tech giant released its first Tizen-powered smartphone, the Z1. The aforementioned device landed on the Indian market on the 14th of January and was then released in Bangladesh on February the 3rd.
Interestingly enough though, it seems that the Samsung Z1 has been surprisingly successful in these parts of the world, so much so that Samsung might prepare a sequel sooner rather than later. You’ll find the rest of the story right after the break.

Tizen-Powered Samsung Z2 Already in the Works?

According to recent reports regarding the Samsung Z1′s market status, over 100,000 units have been sold in India since the smartphone’s debut on January 14. In Bangladesh where the device enjoyed less time on-shelves, the Korean manufacturer sold roughly 20,000 units since launch.
Now, these figures might not sound like much given the sales numbers usually recorded by Samsung, but keep in mind that the mobile market in Bangladesh sees roughly 500,000 smartphones sold each month. And because 20K Samsung Z1s have been sold in roughly two weeks, the handset already accounted for 4% of all smartphone sales over a period of 2 weeks since launch. That’s actually pretty darn impressive.

The latest rumors now suggest that Samsung is already working on new Tizen-powered smartphones, seeing the rather unexpected success enjoyed by the first model. Sources say that Sammy’s new Tizen handset will presumably be the Samsung Z2. The company is said to launch the handset in a slightly different range, and this might actually come to pass given that the latest Tizen SDK version released last weekend already seems to offer support for qHD displays (540 x 960; not to be confused with “QHD”).
So what do you guys think? Does Samsung have a chance with Tizen? Would you be more interested in Tizen, knowing that the platform might now be ready to grow at a faster rate?
